Naruto Uzumaki (うずまきナルト, Uzumaki Naruto) is the title character and main protagonist of the series: Naruto. He is a genin from Konohagakure, a member of Team Kakashi, and the third and current jinchūriki of Kurama — the Nine-Tails.
Sasuke Uchiha (うちはサスケ, Uchiha Sasuke) is one of the main characters in the Naruto series. Originally introduced as a protagonist as a genin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Team 7, he later became an antagonist who is affiliated with the Akatsuki. Sasuke is currently a missing-nin, declared as an international criminal, and the sole survivor of the Uchiha clan.
Sakura Haruno (春野サクラ, Haruno Sakura) is one of the main characters in the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure, a talented medical-nin, and a member of Team Kakashi.
Kakashi Hatake (はたけカカシ, Hatake Kakashi) is a jōnin-level shinobi from Konohagakure and the leader of Team 7. He is known worldwide for his use of the Sharingan, earning him the moniker Copy Ninja Kakashi (コピー忍者のカカシ, Kopī Ninja no Kakashi) and Kakashi of the Sharingan (写輪眼のカカシ, Sharingan no Kakashi).
Jiraiya (自来也, Jiraiya) was one of the legendary Sannin of Konohagakure, along with Tsunade and Orochimaru, who was trained by the Third Hokage. He was a self-proclaimed super-pervert, and the writer of the popular adult fiction book series, called Icha Icha. He was also known as the Toad Sage (蝦蟇仙人, Gama Sennin), because of his signature toad summonings and his status as a sage.
Tsunade (綱手, Tsunade) is the Fifth Hokage (五代目火影, Godaime Hokage; Literally meaning "Fifth Fire Shadow") who hails from the Senju clan of Konohagakure and is also a descendant of the Uzumaki clan through her grandmother Mito. She succeeded the position after the death of her teacher, Hiruzen Sarutobi. She, along with Orochimaru and Jiraiya, are recognised as "The Legendary Sannin of Konoha". Tsunade is considered to be one of the most powerful kunoichi in ninja history. She is also celebrated as the greatest medical-nin of all time and is also credited with creating the official system of the medical ninja.
Might Guy (マイト・ガイ, Maito Gai) is a jōnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure and a major supporting character of the series. He is also the leader of Team Guy which consists of Rock Lee, Neji Hyūga, and Tenten.
Shino Aburame (油女シノ, Aburame Shino) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. He is a chūnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Aburame clan and a member of Team Kurenai.
Tenten (テンテン, Tenten) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure and member of Team Guy.
Neji Hyūga (日向ネジ, Hyūga Neji) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. He is a jōnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Hyūga clan and a member of Team Guy.
Kiba Inuzuka (犬塚 キバ, Inuzuka Kiba) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. He is a chūnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Inuzuka clan. He, along with his partner, Akamaru, are both members of Team Kurenai.
Chōji Akimichi (秋道チョウジ, Akimichi Chōji) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. He is a chūnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Akimichi clan and a member of Team Asuma. Along with his team-mates, he is part of an Ino–Shika–Chō trio, just like their fathers were before them.
Ino Yamanaka (山中いの, Yamanaka Ino) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure's Yamanaka clan and a member of Team Asuma. Along with her team-mates, Ino makes up the new generation of Ino–Shika–Chō, just like their fathers were before them.
Rock Lee (ロック・リー, Rokku Rī) is one of the major supporting characters of the series. He is a chūnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure and a member of Team Guy.
Hinata Hyūga (日向 ヒナタ, Hyūga Hinata) is one of the main supporting characters of the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure's Hyūga clan and a member of Team Kurenai.
Shikamaru Nara (奈良シカマル, Nara Shikamaru) is a major supporting character of the series. He is a chūnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Nara clan and a member of Team Asuma. Along with his team-mates, he makes up the new generation of Ino–Shika–Chō, just like their fathers were before them.
Asuma Sarutobi (猿飛アスマ, Sarutobi Asuma) was a jōnin-level shinobi of Konohagakure's Sarutobi clan as well as former member of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. He was also the leader of Team 10.
Yamato (ヤマト, Yamato) is a member of Konoha's ANBU, and a younger peer of Kakashi Hatake. He is introduced as a temporary leader of Team Kakashi, but has since continued to work with the team. "Yamato" is actually a codename given to him by Tsunade for the purposes of joining Team Kakashi. While Kakashi was still in the ANBU, Yamato's codename was Tenzō (テンゾウ) — which Kakashi sometimes still calls him by — although Yamato prefers that Kakashi uses his new codename. His real name is currently unknown.
Sai (サイ, Sai) is a member of the disbanded ANBU faction: Root and one of the main supporting characters of the series. He is also a member of Team Kakashi replacing Sasuke Uchiha.
Minato Namikaze (波風ミナト, Namikaze Minato), renown as Konoha's Yellow Flash (木ノ葉の黄色い閃光, Konoha no Kiiroi Senkō; English "Yellow Flash of the Leaf"), was a shinobi who became the Fourth Hokage (四代目火影, Yondaime Hokage; Literally meaning "Fourth Fire Shadow") of Konohagakure.
Kurenai Yūhi (夕日紅, Yūhi Kurenai) is a jōnin-level kunoichi from Konohagakure. She is also the leader of Team Kurenai, which consists of: Hinata Hyūga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru.
Gaara (我愛羅, Gaara) is a major supporting character of the series, originally introduced as an antagonist. As the jinchūriki of Shukaku, Gaara gained the nickname "Gaara of the Sand Waterfall" (砂瀑の我愛羅, Sabaku no Gaara; English "Gaara of the Desert"). In Part II, he became the Fifth Kazekage (五代目風影, Godaime Kazekage; Literally meaning "Fifth Wind Shadow") of Sunagakure and the Regimental Commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
Mei Terumī (照美メイ, Terumī Mei) is the Fifth Mizukage (五代目水影, Godaime Mizukage; Literally meaning "Fifth Water Shadow") of Kirigakure. She became Mizukage in recent years, after the dreadful reign of Yagura ended.
Ōnoki (オオノキ, Ōnoki; Viz "Ohnoki") is the Third Tsuchikage (三代目土影, Sandaime Tsuchikage; Literally meaning "Third Earth Shadow")[1] of Iwagakure. He is renowned as "Ōnoki of Both Scales" (両天秤のオオノキ, Ryōtenbin no Ōnoki; English TV "Ohnoki the Fence-Sitter").
A (エー, Ē; Viz "Ei", English TV "Ay") is the Fourth Raikage (四代目雷影, Yondaime Raikage; Literally meaning "Fourth Lightning Shadow")[1] of Kumogakure.
Kankurō (カンクロウ, Kankurō) is a supporting character in the series. He is a jōnin-level shinobi of Sunagakure and one of the three Sand Siblings.
Temari (テマリ, Temari) is one of the supporting characters of the series. She is a jōnin-level kunoichi of Sunagakure and one of the three Sand Siblings.
Deidara (デイダラ, Deidara) was an S-rank missing-nin from Iwagakure's Explosion Corps. He was also one of the youngest members of Akatsuki, and was partnered with Sasori and Tobi consecutively before his death.
Itachi Uchiha (うちはイタチ, Uchiha Itachi) was an ANBU captain from Konohagakure's famed Uchiha clan. He later murdered his entire clan in what would become known as the Uchiha clan massacre and defected from the village, becoming an S-rank missing-nin and a prominent Akatsuki member who was partnered with Kisame Hoshigaki.
Nagato (長門, Nagato), also known as Pain (ペイン, Pein), was the recognised leader of Akatsuki and Amegakure and a major antagonist of the series. Referred to as "Leader" by all Akatsuki members (except for his partner Konan), he directed the actions of the rest of the members and maintained authority over them. It was later revealed that he had secretly collaborated with Tobi, who was the real leader of Akatsuki.
Tobi (トビ, Tobi) is one of the main antagonists of the series who, among other things, played an integral role in the formation of Akatsuki,[2] was directly responsible for the Nine-Tails' Attack on Konoha and served as a covert participant in the Uchiha clan massacre. He is known as a harbinger of destruction, and a master of deception, whose history is predominantly shrouded in mystery. To further his plans, he has claimed to be the legendary shinobi Madara Uchiha with plans of global domination.
Zetsu (ゼツ, Zetsu) is a member of Akatsuki and one of Tobi's most loyal subordinates. The black half is known as Black Zetsu (黒ゼツ, Kuro-Zetsu), while the white half was known as White Zetsu (白ゼツ, Shiro-Zetsu).
Kisame Hoshigaki (干柿鬼鮫, Hoshigaki Kisame), feared as the Monster of the Hidden Mist (霧隠れの怪人, Kirigakure no Kaijin), was an S-rank missing-nin from Kirigakure's Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and was partnered with Itachi Uchiha when the latter joined Akatsuki.
Sasori (サソリ, Sasori), also known as Sasori of the Red Sand (赤砂のサソリ, Akasuna no Sasori), was an S-rank missing-nin from Sunagakure's Puppet Brigade and a member of Akatsuki, where he was partnered with Orochimaru and later, Deidara.
Hidan (飛段, Hidan) was an S-rank missing-nin who defected from Yugakure and joined the Akatsuki. There he was partnered with Kakuzu despite the two's somewhat mutual dislike of each other. He was also the second newest member of Akatsuki at the time of his introduction.[2] Kisame laughingly referred to Hidan and Kakuzu as the "Zombie Combo" (ゾンビコンビ, Zonbi Konbi).
Kakuzu (角都, Kakuzu) was an S-rank missing-nin from Takigakure and a member of Akatsuki who was partnered with Hidan. Kisame Hoshigaki jokingly referred to them as the "Zombie Combo" (ゾンビコンビ, Zonbi Konbi),[2] due to the fact that, in a sense, they could not die. Within the organisation itself, Kakuzu acted as the organisation's treasurer.
Konan (小南, Konan) was a kunoichi from Amegakure and was the only female in Akatsuki. She was the partner of Nagato, being the only member to call him by his name. She later became the leader of Amegakure after defecting from Akatsuki.
Orochimaru (大蛇丸, Orochimaru) is a major antagonist of the Naruto series during Part I. Recognised as one of the most powerful ninja Konohagakure ever produced and one of the "Three Legendary Shinobi" (伝説の三忍, Densetsu no Sannin), he operated as an ANBU shinobi in the village within the Root faction prior to his defection from the village in pursuit of his own self-serving desires.
Kabuto Yakushi (薬師カブト, Yakushi Kabuto) is a major antagonist of the series, who was first introduced as a Konohagakure genin. He was orphaned by war as a child and was found by Nonō Yakushi and raised in the Konoha Orphanage. After being recruited by Root, he served as a deep cover agent in different countries for several years before defecting and joining Orochimaru, where he acted as his personal medic, research assistant, and general right-hand-man. After Orochimaru's sealing, Kabuto joined forces with Tobi and Akatsuki during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
Hashirama Senju (千手柱間, Senju Hashirama) was a legendary ninja who became the First Hokage (初代火影, Shodai Hokage; Literally meaning "First or Founding Fire Shadow") of Konohagakure. He hails from the Senju clan who together with the Uchiha clan established the first shinobi village: Konohagakure.
Tobirama Senju (千手扉間, Senju Tobirama) was the Second Hokage ( 二代目火影, Nidaime Hokage; Literally meaning "Second Fire Shadow") of Konohagakure. He hails from the Senju clan, who along with the Uchiha clan, founded the first shinobi village: Konoha. During his reign, Tobirama was accredited as the Hokage that developed the village's infrastructure and organisational system.
Hiruzen Sarutobi (猿飛ヒルゼン, Sarutobi Hiruzen) revered as the God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami), was the Third Hokage (三代目火影, Sandaime Hokage; Literally meaning "Third Fire Shadow") who hailed from Konohagakure's Sarutobi clan. He was part of Team Tobirama alongside Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane under the leadership of the Second Hokage. He was also trained by the First Hokage and would later become the teacher of the Legendary Sannin Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru.
